Y&R Executive OUT!

Y&R Executives Maria Bell and Paul Rauch; EMMY Winner Jeanne Cooper

CONFIRMED: Paul Rauch will leave his position as Co-Executive Producer of YOUNG AND RESTLESS, effective April 1, 2011. According to a statement, Rauch plans to return to the East Coast. "My collaboration with Steve Kent, and Maria and Bill Bell has been very rewarding. I have had great pleasure working with Y&R's magnificent cast and crew. I feel that I've accomplished everything that I set out to achieve, and it's now time for me to return to New York."

Rauch, a 50-year veteran of the daytime world, was named Co-Executive Producer of YOUNG AND RESTLESS in September, 2008, and had stints as executive producer for soaps including ANOTHER WORLD, ONE LIFE TO LIVE, SANTA BARBARA and GUIDING LIGHT.

"Y&R has benefited tremendously from Paul Rauch's experience and knowledge," added Executive Producer/Head Writer Maria Bell. 

What does this mean for daytime's #1 soap? Can Maria Bell survive being executive producer and head writer? Only time will tell!

FACT - Lady Gaga's "Bad Romance" is the most viewed video in YouTube history and won seven 2010 MTV Video Music Awards, including the prize for Video and Directing Achievement.  

FACT - Eminem and Rihanna's "Love The Way You Lie" and Cee Lo Green's "F*** You" are both nominated  for Record of the Year and Song of the Year. This is one of the rare Grammy categories that the General Field is not a good indicator for who will win in this category.  

ASSUMPTION - Johnny Cash's "Ain't No Grave/The Johnny Cash Project" and Gorillaz, Mos Def & Bobby Womack's "Stylo" will not likely upset.

Soaps Begin Campaigning the WRONG Actors!

Call it block voting, call it putting yourself out there; I see it as cheating! A production will have its lead actor and lead actress, not 5 or 7; oh yes, that's you 'All My Children' and 'One Life to Live'!

How embarassing it would be for the Academy of Television of Arts and Sciences to reward 'AMC' and 'OLTL' with multiple nominations when they have come out of what is considered to be their worst seasons since the start of the millenium. This isn't saying much for 'AMC' fans especially, given that the fictional town of Pine Valley isn't recognizable!

Daytime Emmys Pre-Nominations...

 

The Daytime Emmys, over the years, have really made a name for themselves, as the most confusing awards program! Rules for nominating performers and shows have changed so much, even Academy members leave themselves scratching their heads.

Nonetheless, this is THE OFFICIAL listing of who has submitted themselves for EMMY consideration. Having been released to the industry, the top-2 vote getting performers in each category will be revealed on February 25th! At that point, all pre-nominated performers will go through the judging process. Once done, the final ballot of nominees will be announced in April of this year! Once revealed, performers will submit their EMMY tapes; come June 19th, the winners will be revealed!

As everyone knows, the loss of 'World Turns' was incredibly difficult, and another nail in the genre's coffin, but surprisingly, and deservedly, performed for the canceled soap are braving one more awards season!

2011 GRAMMY PREDICTION: Dance Recording

The Nominees for 'Best Dance Recording' Are...

Lady Gaga should be the obvious choice to win this category come Sunday night, but the pop icon isn't for "Bad Romance". Rather, Gaga is a contender for the album track "Dance in the Dark," a single that has never aired, nor one that is popular with most fans!

Despite this, Gaga still could win based on the respect she has as a dance artist; however, she has Rihanna and Robyn breathing down her neck!

Robyn's "Dancing On My Own" was the best track of 2010, yet, it scored one Grammy nomination. While she has critics rallying by her side, the indie artist, who doesn't get played on the radio, may not have the necessary Academy support to triumph here.

(Aside: Robyn's record label screwed her out of a nomination for Best Dance Album by foolishly submitting the first two Body Talk albums for consideration instead of just the first one, splitting the vote and costing her a nom in a category she might have actually won.)

Rihanna is always a contender, but she's never won this award, despite being nominated in 2008 for "Don't Stop the Music" and in 2009 for "Disturbia." La Roux might have been the favorite if "Bulletproof" was nominated instead of "In for the Kill," but "Bulletproof" wasn't Grammy-eligible this year. Goldfrapp is another critics' favorite that is likely to be outshined by the bigger names.

Lady Gaga won this category last year for "Poker Face." We'll be ecstatic if Robyn prevails, but in a close race, Gaga will take the award again.

With the GRAMMY's airing this Sunday on CBS - here are the first few predictions:

Best Female Pop Vocal Performance
King of Anything - Sara Bareilles

Chasing Pirates - Norah Jones
Bad Romance - Lady Gaga
Teenage Dream - Katy Perry

PREDICTION: Bad Romance by Lady Gaga. 

Lady Gaga had a huge 2010, all beginning with the tour de force that is Bad Romance. It has strong vocals, descriptive lyrics, and a sound that takes the best of Poker Face and amplifies it! Add to that, the song has become a huge hit and will likely take this award with ease. Although I am betting my all on Gaga's victory here (arguably the biggest and most successful musical act since 2009), Chasing Pirates by Norah Jones is the only other song that could cause a huge upset in this category.

PREDICTION: Just The Way You Are by Bruno Mars. 
As sappy as this song may be, it is a very strong song that has widespread appeal to attract both critics and the masses. It has transformed Bruno Mars from a featured artist to an artist that has the vocal chops and individuality to have a successful solo career. Furthermore, this song is the epitome of Bruno's strong writing and singing skills. A possible contender for this award is This Is It by Michael Jackson, as it is the first awards ceremony that his posthumous music has become eligible for new Grammy awards.
