The Soap Opera: Nearing Extinction!

All My Children CANCELLED?!
Cast Changes over at Y&R...
DAYS to lauch substance-abuse stories!!!

AMC’s possible cancellation is worrying the cast and crew of the ABC sudser. After an all-cast meeting held by executive producer Julie Carruthers, Ricky Paull Goldin assured fans that the 41-year-old soap was not cancelled to Soap Opera Digest.

The Emmy-nominated actor relayed: “We have been told by the powers-that-be we’re not going anywhere, that the rumours are not true and we would have been the first to know. These are all vicious rumours. To see false rumours affect or impact a legacy television program like this would be a sin.

“It was a bit of a downer that we’ve all been fielding questions and texts and emails from people who love us, our family and friends. My mom called and asked me if the show was going off the air. That doesn’t set you up for a good day at work. That was so yesterday. And everybody is fine today.”

MY TWO CENTS: If Goldin believes that the cast will be the first to know, he clearly has forgotten about ABC denying AMC was moving its production to L.A. a year and a half ago.

Perhaps that’s why the cast is urging fans on Twitter and Facebook to write into ABC honchos Anne Sweeney and Brian Frons. “Now is the time to let their voices be heard,” Goldin says. “And they can do that by calling this phone number: 818-460-7477, press 1, then 2, then 3, then 255 for AMC and tell the powers-that-be that they support and love the show and that if the show doesn’t go anywhere, they’re not going anywhere.”

Ironically, Susan Lucci’s memoir, All My Life, is being released on March 29 and all this AMC cancellation brouhaha may help with her book sales, or overshadow her promotional efforts.

In Salem, La Chappell’s winning! Speaking of Carly, Chappell tells Soap Opera Digest that she’s over the moon with her new storyline: next week, an overcome Carly self-medicates with a syringe next week. The Emmy winner enthuses, “I was so excited [upon hearing the storyline]. I was hugging people. I was so happy. It’s just nice to play a character who doesn’t have to be so together all the time, especially a doctor. I was happy they were willing to really look at this woman’s past and what she’s been through, not just in the past year, but the past 15, and have that be a part of her unravelling. So, it feels like I’m really getting to know her for the first time since I’ve started playing her.”

Over in Genoa City, Soap Opera Digest has confirmed that Daytime Emmy Award nominated Emily O'Brien has been let go despite the actress re-signing with the soap not too long ago. There is some concern other actors in her storyline may also be heading out.

In story 411, Victor strikes back at his greedy, spoiled children by selling Newman Enterprises stock to the public!

'The Office', 'Parks & Recreation', and 'Community' given more life!

“I am so pleased to renew these three outstanding comedies which are all at the top of their game creatively,” said Bob Greenblatt, NBC Entertainment Chairman, in a statement. “Along with 30 Rock, they represent the best of what the NBC comedy brand stands for in terms of originality, wit, and sophistication. The Office continues to fire on all cylinders on the most competitive night of television, Parks and Recreation has come into its own this season as the rightful companion to The Office, and Community is one of the freshest comedies on any network and a solid foundation for Thursday night.”

Post-OSCAR Uproar!

Was A Kiss Censored?

Controversy brews over a scene not shown on the Oscars telecast: Javier Bardem & Josh Brolin kissing and dancing while en route to the podium to bestow the award for adapted screenplay. As the duo appeared on stage, dressed in matching white tuxedos & ties, cameras briskly cut away to a shot of Penelope Cruz, beaming in the audience.

Telecast producer Bruce Cohen insists that Brolin/Bardem kiss wasn't censored. He issued the following statement to AfterElton, "It [the dance and the kiss] was unscripted, and the plan in the truck was always to cut to Penelope in the audience applauding Josh's and Javier's introduction, so that is what happened, just as they were starting to dance. Josh and Javier’s moment (I saw them start to dance, but, to be honest, I have no idea if they kissed — that’s the first I've heard of that) would have made a great TV moment, but since no one knew it was coming, we cut to the gorgeous Ms. Cruz as planned. By the time we cut back from her close-up, Josh and Javier were walking to the podium."

This sounds like a bunch of bull! This is NOT the first time the OSCARS have been accused of homophobia! But hey, what can we do?
